"Why We Love Camp Ilene"

I don’t know what I’d do without all of you at Camp Ilene .  Thorsen absolutely loves to come play and all I have to ask him is “Do you want to go see Auntie Ilene today?” and he a zooms for the door, leash in his mouth and tail wagging about 90 miles an hour.  This has been a really difficult summer with my accident and I feel bad that I can’t walk him like I did before, but you have made this rough time a whole lot easier.

You are all angels!

Lisa and Thorsen

We just wanted to take a minute to thank you and all of your staff at Camp Ilene. Brody loves to go to camp!! He comes home so tired, he sometimes sleeps for days. It's so wonderful to have a place where we can feel comfortable leaving our fur baby!! We just wanted you and all your staff to know how great they are and to thank everyone for giving so much attention and love to Brody when we can't be with him. We are very thankful for Camp Ilene!! and Brody is thankful too!!

Thanks Again,

Stacey and Paul Fredericks

( Brody's Mommy & Daddy)

Hi Ilene, Just a note to tell you & your staff how very happy we are with all your services and the great treatment our baby "nite man" received at camp. You can be assured that as long as we are close to your camp it will be the ONLY place we will let our beloved boy visit. Bonita & I couldn't have been happier with his care at camp Ilene!   Again Thank you ALL so very much, Henry & Bonita Whitt (aka nite mans mom & dad )

Dear Camp Ilene,

My name is Danny O’Rielly and I'm an 8 month old Golden Retriever. I wanted to thank everyone at Camp for being so much fun and so kind to me. I really love it! Mom took this picture of me the day I returned home after my very first ever sleepover. I was a little scared being away from Mom for the first time, but all that was put aside when we pulled up to the gate at Camp! I knew I was going to be back with friends! I’ve come to Camp Ilene a few times for DayCare and loved it, so Mom wanted to make overnight plans for me while she was out of town. I’m soooo glad she did! This was soooo much fun! Mom never has to worry about me here at Camp Ilene. Everyone is friendly and I make all kinds of doggie friends that I can’t wait to see again each time I return. Mom is happy that I’m so worn out when I get home from DayCamp or an overnighter. Mom just has to mention “Camp Ilene” and I’m headed to the door with my tail a waggin’.

My favorites at Camp Ilene are: the pools, water, lots of land to run and roam on, shade trees, did I mention water? Kind and attentive staff members that all make me feel so welcomed and loved. Oh yeah, and water! Oh, think I mentioned that.

To all my doggy friends out there and doggie parents: just remember you heard it from me. Camp Ilene is the best place on earth and tons of fun!! You got the “scoop” from me (no pun intended)!

Danny O’Rielly Ryan (and Mom)

Thank YOU!  You all are the bestest, and we really appreciate that we have a place for Annie to go that's safe, and fun, and where she's a part of a family that really cares.  We would always rather take her with us, but that's not always possible...or best for her, so I'm sure you'll be seeing us again soon.

Cherie

P.S.  By the way, since she's been home, Annie has been much more "dog friendly" when we're out & about on walks.  She's made a new friend that we visit and they race around the yard and she actually tries to go up to other dogs and say hello now.  Amazing change from last year or even a few months ago!  It truly is amazing that she's becoming more social -- I was really thinking it would never happen and that we'd always have a super shy girl, but she's making great progress.  Last night, we got approached (kind of charged) at the park by a much bigger guy who was off-leash playing catch with his owner and saw us and RAN over...pretty aggressive, and Annie ran around and around me, but tail up and more like "catch me" than scared.  Now, that's different!  Thanks for all you do for doggie mommy and daddies!

Sunny loves to go to Camp Ilene's and gets so exicted when we pull up to the house and sees all her  friends.  She has been to camp several times and just recently had her first sleepover.  I know Sunny would love to go everywhere with mom and dad, but sometimes she can't.  When mom and dad go away for the day or night it feels good to let her play with her friends all day instead of being home alone. When Sunny gets home she is just exhausted for a few days and we know she has had a terrific time at Camp Ilene's.

Thank you for taking such great care of Sunny.

I am Walter with the Santa hat, and this is my sister Chloe with the reindeer antlers.  I started going to Camp Ilene at 9 months when I was a pupteen, and ever since then, mom and dad have been sending me and my new adopted sister Chloe to Camp Ilene when they go on these long trips.  They tend to be procrastinators when it comes to planning, and I know when we're on our way to Camp when I hear mom pleading with the counselor on the phone to "please, PLEASE notify us when there is a cancellation."  She has back-up places but says she feels most relieved when we're at Camp Ilene, especially because no "hotel suite" can compare to open spaces all day and all night!  Luckily for us, mom usually gets real lucky because the counselors try to squeeze us in whenever humanly possible, and they go above and beyond their duties to make sure we get to romp around at Camp!  My sister Chloe used to be a bit shy with other large dogs, but after a few visits to Camp she's just like me - the life of the party.  Oh yeah~.  We have so much fun that after we come home smelling like flowers (literally - the Bonnie grooming lady makes us so soft and fluffy) we saunter around the house with our eyes half open and sleep for two days straight.  But after some sleep, we're ready to go back, and when the suitcases start coming out, Chloe and me... we just know... It's party time at Camp Ilene.

Hi Ilene,

It is our pleasure to know that we have a "Home away from Home" for Julie.

We had never imagined how Julie could spend those 5 days we were out of LA. You guys have been wonderful in many aspects. Firstly Julie was safe and happy, secondly we picked up a dog who was clean and smelled good, thirdly we felt Julie had a better vacation than us. She will only go to CampIlene when we go of for vacation.

Thanks again to CampIlene team.

Thank you Ilene for your great care. I observed Cosmo's excitement when you came to the gate to get him. I could tell his first experience was good as he could not wait to get come inside with you. It sure is nice to know that he is having a great time and being well taken care of while we are away.   Sharon Vedder & Cosmo

Dear Camp Ilene,

I am Dakota the Happiest Camp Ilene Camper! My favorite is when you throw the ball for me and then I bring it back and you throw it again and again and again, don’t stop please. Camp Ilene is Labrador Heaven!

I started going there when I was only six months old because I was chewing the walls when my Mom & Dad were gone to work and I’m two years old now. I come every Thursday and we even have a song so that I know when I get to go to camp. It goes like this:

It’s doggie day care day,

Time for Dakota to play,

I get to run all day,

At doggie day care day!

(Sung to the tune of howdy doody time)

As soon as I hear that song I dance by the door and jump into the car to go to camp. I love it when they throw the ball all day and I love the pool best of all (Don’t all labs love the pool?) I have even spent the weekend there and had the best time. I am always so tired when I get back home and will sleep for the whole next day. Thank you Ilene and can you throw that ball again please? And again? One more time?

Happy Camper      Dakota

Just a note to you and your staff to say thank you for taking care of Nino.  This was the first time that I went on vacation with no worries for him.  I am just thrilled that he was taken care of so well.  I love everything about your facility and I think the webcam is super!  Thank you again!!!      Lisa Bojorquez & Nino

Hi Ilene,

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of Patches.  She must have had a great time, because she was pooped-out for a couple of days.  It is nice to know that there is someone that you can trust to take good care your best little friend when it is impossible for you to take them along with you when you travel.  We have had family and friends say they would watch Patches when we are away, but I feel more comfortable leaving her in your care, knowing that she is going to get a lot of attention and have fun.  Just out of curiosity, how did she do with the other dogs?  Well, I hope.  My wife and I discussed bringing her to day camp to help maintain her social skills.  Also, our kids were excited that their dog went to camp and not a kennel.

You have a new customer and we look forward to seeing you again and knowing that Patches is well cared for when we travel.

Greg Fredenburg & Patches

Thanks so much for caring for my sweet little Edward.  I hope he was nice to other over-nighters.  I know he can be touchy at times.  I'm so glad that you offer this service and I do tell anyone and everyone who has a dog, that your place is the place to leave their dogs when they go away.

Take care,

Wendy Smart & Edward

Hi,

It’s me Snuggles. Now that I am one year old, Mom says I am a big girl and can write a testimonial for Camp Ilene .   I have been coming to Camp Ilene since I was 6 months old.  I love to come to Camp Ilene , but it wasn’t always that way.  I peed all over everywhere the first time I came, just like I peed on the vet’s table the first time I went there.  I shook the next couple of times, but soon I began playing with my doggie friends. I used to get scared of everything, but not any more. Camp Ilene has helped show me that new people and things are good--- fun, too.  Now, I can’t wait to get into camp. I start wiggling the minute Mom puts on my leash and picks up my food.

We live really close to Camp Ilene so I get see it every day when we go to Starbucks.   I know they can’t see me, but I still look over and wag my tail at all my Camp Ilene friends.  Every Thursday I get to go to Camp Ilene . Mom and Dad can’t figure out how I know when it is Thursday, but I always know.  Dad got out the suitcases today so I know they are going traveling soon, and I get to go to Camp Ilene for overnights.   I am starting to get excited already.

Licks and Love to All

Ilene,

This was our first visit to Camp Ilene .  We have used other places to watch K.C. in the past with very upsetting results.  She either got hurt or an infection or she comes home with no voice.

When we picked up K.C. from your home she was happy and healthy.  I just wanted to thank you so much for taking such good care of our little girl.  I will always bring K.C. back to your camp in the future with no worries and I will gladly tell all my friends and family to use your camp also.  Thank you again, for all the love and care you showed our K.C.

Dear Ilene,
All that you told us came true.  The boys (Vinnie and Napolean) had a blast at Camp Ilene last week.  They came home tired and packed full of dirt.  After walking in the door, Vinnie slowly dragged himself up the stairs, and with needed help, jumped onto Kevin's bed, then slept for three days. Vinnie is now back to his rested self and running around in high gear. I've talked to Spenc, and Napoleon followed suit.
Again thank you.  We are so delighted to now have a safe and happy home to bring the guys, when we're away.

For all those future Camp Ilene visitors...

We first started visiting Ilene in Mission Viejo in 1996 when we moved to California with our 8 week old golden, Tucker. Ilene has been an important part of our family ever since. She has been there to help and in friendship...whether it was calling her about a naughty pup or crying on her shoulder with the loss of our Tucker or helping us find our new pup, Cooper.

Like so many of these testimonials have stated, we share an appreciation for the peace of mind Ilene gives us knowing that she will not only take care of our 'best friends', she will also give them the love and affection they thrive on.

Ilene, your energy, true love of dogs, and thoughtfulness has made a big difference in our lives; thank you from the bottom of our hearts...

Bob, Patti, Patrick, and Betsy Deuster

First off Sweet Pea and I would like to start by saying Camp Ilene is where a dog can be a dog. We play with new friends, bask in the sun, and run and play as much as we want. Mom and Dad needed some time off and we got time off to play while they were gone. We were never alone and were always well taken care of. If your parents get concerned they can go online and view what’s happening on two doggie cams installed so they can rest assured your having as much fun as they are while on vacation. But that’s not all, I noticed other doggie friends that stayed for the day and played then, went home at night. All the doggies here were   treated with love, understanding, and care.  Do yourself a favor, Tell you Mom and Dad you want to vacation at Camp Ilene, you might not want to go home!

Hi Ilene;  Thank you all for being so INCREDIBLY efficient.  I was very impressed with your gate service for
intake and pick-up...I love the on-line reservation and communication options!  I cannot tell you how much
time I have wasted over the years standing in check-in lines to board pets, with restless, nervous
animals!!  Sophie and Sadie came home from camp, tired, relaxed and happy!  What a change!  I was happy to know that it worked out for Sophie to be with the "little dogs"..she is such a gentle soul, and big dogs just plain
intimidate her!  So now other than singing your praises...my only question is...do you know anyone that runs
a camp like yours for CATS?  I have a 12 year-old MAINE COON  that it Mr. Personality..and I always
hate having to kennel him for any length of time.  We will see you on Thursday!  Blessings M

OH, I can not tell you how thrilled we are to have discovered you!
What an amazing place for our Shorty.  From the moment we pulled up to the minute we left, I felt nothing but warmth and love from every person I met.  The peace of mind I had leaving him there is priceless, and words alone can not express our gratitude.
The only way I could describe it to a friend was....if we could imagine a doggy heaven, camp Ilene would be it!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Love,
The Cendro Family

Ilene -
Thanks for taking care of our Daisy.  Both times she's been to Camp, she's been pooped out when we got home and went straight to her dog bed.  So I can only assume that she had a fantastic, yet exhausting time!!  It's nice to know she has a fun place to stay when I'm away from home.
Thanks again,
Kim and Daisy

I just want to send a note to tell you that Ozzie was completely exhausted when he came home from Camp.  I could tell he got good exercise, but still happy to see us when we got home from Vegas.  Thank you for your attention to detail with our Oz - - We love him dearly and wouldn't trust him to just "anyone".  This was our first visit and I know we will be back.  Pictured at right is Oz at the Riverside Dog park, which he also enjoys.
Thanks again for your care with Ozzie which was quite evident when he came home.  He was a happy (very tired) dog.  I have told others about your service, and I'm quite sure my daughter will show up with her Mimi - (Lab).  She was nice enough to drop off Ozzie and was quite impressed when she saw your facility and how "dog friendly" it was.  She will probably be visiting too.
Thanks again - - Our Oz means everything to us, and I was very pleased that he was tired when he came home.  Just like the dog park - - this means he had a good time!

Dear Doggies!!

Hey, it’s me, Ace – You know, the Boxer puppy who likes to run, run, run?!?!? I’m so excited that I get to tell you all about my favorite place in the whole world (besides Mommy’s pillow)!!!!! Did I mention that I like to run around??? Any way, I get to run around all day at the most doggy friendly place, and everybody loves me there!! How could they not, look at me, c,mon, look at me!!! Did I tell you that I like to run??? Oh okay, Mommy let me on the computer today so I could tell you about Camp Ilene , (She doesn’t usually let me play with her toys) so here goes… I was about four months old when my Mommy and Daddy first brought me to Camp Ilene , and did I mention that I love to run around??? Well, that’s what I did, a LOT!!! I’ve been coming here about twice a week ever since, and I have made so many friends! I have learned to watch Daddy on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, I follow him around until he puts my leash on and we get in the car. That’s how I learned my days of the week!! I also know the way to Camp Ilene ’s because my tail starts wagging and I start talking to Daddy before he even turns on Ilene’s street!! I can’t wait to run in the gate and see all of my friends again!! I spend my day running around and playing in the water when it’s warm outside. Did I tell you that I like to run? Oh, Mommy says I did already, and she’s tapping her watch… Well, when Daddy picks me up after work I wag my tail, jump in the van, and for some reason I’m asleep before he even turns the corner…I have to go now, Mommy’s talking about muddy paws and something called a “keyboard….”

Love, Ace

Sid has finally recuperated from his two trips to Camp, he had a wonderful time and has been literally a couch potatoe for the past few days.

We wanted to thank you for taking good care of him and for putting up with my phone calls. I knew the second trip that Sid absolutely loved the place since he was whining at your gate and could not wait to get inside.

We are so glad we found you and will be using you every time we go on our trips, except this time I know to give a lot more notice. Once again thank you to you and all your staff for making us and Sid feel comfortable.

Michelle, Peter, Kaylee and Sid

Hi, Ilene,

We dropped off Niko for his very first day camp yesterday.   Niko loves people and loves to kiss.  I was apprehensive about leaving him.  Will they like him?  Will they play with him?  Will they let him kiss them?  And all my worries were washed away the minute you greeted him like a long lost friend.  When we picked him up in the afternoon, the girl reassured me how well he had done, that he was a people dog and always had a smile.  I watched Niko interact with her and he was so happy.  Thank you and your staff for showing Niko so much love and kindness.

In his four years, Niko has slept every night with us.  He will be coming back for an overnight camp (June 7th - 10th) and I am still nervous of leaving him on his first overnight stay but I cannot think of a better place, safer environment and more loving staff to leave him with than with you.

Lilly

Hi Ilene,
I have been meaning to write to you and thank you for having Lexi in March.
She had such a great time that I decided she needed to go for Summer Camp.
My neighbor Sherry was soo impressed with your whole set up at Camp Ilene and gave me a  detailed report on Lexi's stay with you.  I was so happy to know that Lexi was out running and swimming and having a
great time with all the other campers.
Thanks so much for having such a wonderful place for my dog and for giving
me the peace of mind when I go away that she is having fun in a safe and
loving environment.
Sincerely,
Susannah Rawlins

Ilene & Camp Counselors,

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do!  I don't know how we survived before learning about Camp.  I know that Holly looks forward to it and wishes she could go everyday!

Donna, AKA Holly's Mom

Hi everybody! My name is Maya and I’m a 10 month old Golden Retriever. My Mom & Dad take me to Camp Ilene’s every time they go away. I don’t know where they go, but I love going to Camp Ilene’s place. I get to romp in the corral, play with all my friends and have slumber parties every night. My most favorite thing to do is to find some water and just sit. Do you know how good that feels? Sometimes I sit in the wrong place, like a drinking bowl. But if I can find a way to fit, I’m going to "push my little tush" into anyplace that has some water. There’s nothing like the feeling of some cold water all over your body to cool off (don’t I look happy?) Can’t wait to see you next time. Love, Maya

How Camp Ilene Saved My Life and My Mommy’s Sanity

By MishMish

My mommy adopted me after I was rescued from the streets.  I was really nervous when she brought me home.  Every day she would leave me home alone while she went hunting.  I was afraid she wouldn’t come home to me.  I was also bored – I was used to having to hunt for myself and now I was home alone.  Yes, I had a big yard to play in, a big house to sleep in and my own special door, but I was alone.  I’d look for things to play with and had a few accidents.  O.K., a lot of accidents.  Statues, papers, books, sofa, TV, screen door.  Mommy would come home and yell at me a lot and she’d even cry sometimes.  When I broke the TV I thought I was a goner.  Then one day Mommy took me hunting with her, or so I thought.  But instead she brought me to this place called Camp Ilene .  I was really scared I was being dumped again and all those dogs waiting at the gate were really scary.  Mommy took me through the gate herself and let me loose.  Those other dogs weren’t so bad after all.  I ran around and played all day and guess what – Mommy came back at the end of the day and brought me back home.  Boy did I sleep that night!

Now I just love going to Camp Ilene .  I have friends there and even a special boyfriend.  I just plow my way through the gate and past the crowd.  We play all day and even go swimming when it’s hot.  Sometimes I get to spend the night and be an overnight camper, but Mommy always returns for me.  And when I’m home, I don’t have so many accidents because I’m too tired to get into trouble.  Now Mommy’s happy with me and doesn’t yell at me or cry anymore.

And that’s how Camp Ilene saved my life and my mommy’s sanity.

Hi everydog.  My name is Hanna and I'm the gorgous blonde Golden who has all the boys in a tizzy.  I have my human's bring me to camp several days per week and of course when they go away on their silly vacations.  Trust me, I would never stay anywhere where I was not treated like the princess that I am.  Ilene and her helpers really know how to pamper a girl like me and going to camp is my absolute favorite dog activity.  Tell your humans that you want to go to camp and look for me.....but please no autographs!  Hanna, the most beautiful one

Hi Ilene,

Once again we are so tired from hanging out at Camp Ilene, all we want to do is sleep when we get home.  Your team of experts keep us busy running up and down the ramps, chasing big balls around, and last time Alburt got to play in the water. I don’t like it much but he is a fish out of water. I like coming to your place Ilene because I get to see some of my buddies, and we just play, run, snooze, sit on top of the ramps and watch those silly humans work, you know work is for those who do not have anything better to do.  I am learning how to be a girl dog and I am pretty likeable most of the time. I am a little conscious of my ears; do you think they look big? At least my ears stand up, look at Alburts, one flops down and the other one lays on top of his head, ha-ha, Hey psst. Did you know that Alburt can be a real butthead sometimes, he thinks he owns all the toys until an older dog shows up and then he is the courts jester. He,he,he…Sometimes at Camp Ilene….. I like to perform in front of the camera, I pretend like my Dad is watching.  “He is Sharlet!”…… One of our favorite times is naptime, and I like my brother because he lets me use him for a pillow when I take naps. Really though I am protecting him while he sleeps, he doesn’t know that, but I am, I whisper little doggie stories in his big ole floppy ears.  I like Camp Ilene so much that when it is time to go I sometimes have to be given a treat to get into my Dads truck, it hurts his feelings but he know that Alburt and I really love him. I think he knows it is because we like having so much room to run and play and just be a real dog. He promised us one day we would have a big backyard like Ilene does. Until then he will just have to bring us to Camp Ilene. Yeah!!!!!

Ilene, Kim, and Crew.  We are very grateful for all the Love you give us and I will always tell my friends about our stay at Camp Ilene. See Ya Soon.

Ilene, I want to thank you personally for this second home. I feel so confident of the care you provide for my dogs that Camp Ilene is second to none. This gives me a great peace of mind when I am traveling away from home. It is an honor to have you as a friend.  Ruff ! Ruff !  Our Love ,

Hi Ilene,
Just thought I'd send you a picture of our beauty queen. I was so nervous when I first dropped her off at camp but you were so reassuring to this newbie mom that I left feeling very comfortable and I knew that you would treat Bella very well.   When I picked her up she had been groomed so nicely and she was so happy and confident that I knew I would never take her elsewhere. Thanks for all you do!   We'll  see you soon!

Dear Ilene,

Hudson and I want to thank you for the wonderful experiences we have had at your camp.  You know I enjoy the outdoors, but I am more the stop and smell the roses, type guy.  I love sitting with you or Kim and getting puppy loves.  Hudson on the other hand loves to romp and play all day long.  His favorite thing to do is run on the agility course.  We all know I can do it, but I choose not to.  However, we both enjoy posing for the Petcam.  As you can tell by our picture, Hudson and I are not camera shy.

Do you remember how crazy our mom was the first time we slept over?  I didn’t think she was going to go out of town.  Huddy and I couldn’t wait to get out of the car and start playing with the other campers, but we did the right thing and kissed our mom goodbye.  As you know, she survived our stay, and we have been enjoying many weekends at camp.  Mom loves and trusts you all so much that our last visit was for 17 days.  Boy did we have a blast!  She told us she watched us relaxing on the upper patio and playing in the corral daily.

We cannot thank you enough for providing us a place to stay that is safe, exciting, and full of love.  Mom is even considering allowing us to visit one day a week to play.  Please convince her to do this; we just love Camp Ilene!

With Love,

Walker

Hi Ilene,

I am finally rested up enough to say “Thank You,” for my super visit at Camp Ilene. I want to tell you that I had a great time, but was I ever tired!  First thing I looked for when I walked in the door was my bed in the family room.  I spent the afternoon snoozing.  You know I was exhausted when I slept through playtime with my friends and reluctantly woke up for a little bite of dinner.  Ilene, you know how I love my food, I left most of it in my bowl and went to the sofa to go back to sleep.  At “bedtime” mom took me out to do my thing and when I came in I didn’t even want to find a toy and see if she would play.  I went straight to the bedroom to my comfy bed.  I slept till morning.  When I woke up I needed to do some good stretching of the legs.  We went for our usual walk; I ate, and guess what?  I went back to sleep for most of the day.  Finally, in the afternoon, when I realized that it was time to go to the park to play with my dog pals, I decided I better get up and get moving.  We played chasing balls and each other for about an hour.  They wondered where I had been for the past week and why Jake could beat me in a race to the ball.  I told them all that I had been on a great vacation at Camp Ilene, where I played all day long and just like people, when they go on a trip, I needed a couple of days rest to get my speed back.  I told them that if they were LUCKY, they would get to go to Camp Ilene for a vacation too.  I told them that camp is so much better than riding in a car for a long time or riding in the scary, dark, cold belly of an airplane to get somewhere, then having to sit in my crate in a hotel room while mom and dad go to places that don’t allow me in.  I’m already looking forward to coming back to camp.

 Love Luci

Dear Auntie Ilene,
I love to go to Camp every Wednesday. Camp Ilene is my most favorite place to go. I'm a Transylvanian Hound, and until I started going to Camp, my mom and dad didn't know what to do with me! My name is Annie, but at Camp they call me Annie Bananie. On Mondays I wait by the door, but nobody gets out the leash. On Tuesdays I wait by the door where mom and dad keep the leash, but nobody gets it out. By Wednesdays, I'm sure someone has forgotten to take me to Camp, and I can't even eat breakfast, I'm so excited! But then dad gets out the leash and I jump in the car and off I go with mom! I love to play on the cool toys at Camp, and run in the corral, and play ball, and get squirted with the hose and jump in the pool. There's always something fun to do. I run all day, and by the time I go home I'm really tired and can't keep my eyes open. My mom and dad love Camp, because they say a tired dog is a good dog. It sure does wear me out - I sleep for two days! I even get to stay at Camp sometimes when mom and dad go on vacation. Our cat has to stay at home. She doesn't go places like Camp, which is just for good dogs like me. I have lots of friends at Camp and I tell everyone they should come and play. I wish I could go every day, I never want to leave Camp. Auntie Ilene, you're the best!
Your favorite Transylvanian Hound, Annie

Hello, my name is Charlie, I have not always been such a happy puppy.  I had a pretty rough start and a not so nice person who kept me in a tiny area ALL day long.  Lucky for me I was rescued and my new people, who call themselves mom and dad, take very good care of me.  I am so happy now, but the best part is that because of my past, my mom refused to put me in a kennel type place while they went on vacation... Anyway, she told me she found a really neat place that I could run and run and run, cause that's what I do best-est!!!!!   She went to meet Ilene to make sure she was nice and she met some of my doggy friends too and decided I would really like it with her and the other campers.  She was sooooooooooo right,  in fact I like Ilene and camp so much that I always forget to say goodbye to my mom and dad when they drop me off...ooooops!  I just get to excited to see all my friends and Ilene and all her people helpers!!!  Mom and dad went away for one week and they said they could watch me on the computer and that made them feel much better.  Camp Ilene is the best-est place for us furry guys and gals so please send me some more friends to play with.  Oh yeah and one last thing, I have not moved for about 3 days now, even my cat friends are not sure who I am!!!!   Mom likes camp for me so much she is bringing me once a week for a sleepover so I can be with my friends for a couple days...my people are so nice,  I am the luckiest puppy in the world....thanks CAMP  ILENE!!!!   Love, Charlie  aka....Char-e bear :)

Dear Ilene,

I absolutely love romping in your oasis.  I get to play with lots of other dogs and lounge in your little pool  Don’t tell my mom and dad but your house is the only place I go swimming at.  You are always so good to all of us campers and I can’t wait for my mom and dad to go out of town, because then I get to see you.  I was adopted and spent some time in a cage and this is so much better!  See you next time when my dad forgets to make reservations like a doufous and calls you last second!   Love, Mia

Hi Ilene,
Thank you for the great stay....WE had a BLAST!!! Our Mom is so happy there is a place like "Camp Ilene" and we are too! We used to go to a "Cage Kennel" when Mom had to leave us and it was awful for all of us. Camp Ilene is so great because we all can be together. No cages, no separation, and just lots of fun to be had all day! Even when our Mom called to check on us Ilene was right there to take any concerns away. We will be coming again and again! XOXOX
Thanks for having us!!
Tonka, Zak, and Andi

Hi everyone, just want you all to know what a totally cool place Camp Ilene is.  I am an only child at home, well that is unless you count the
chew toys......(my mom refers to them as cats)  I used to hate it when my mom went on vacation.  Luckily my mom had the good sense to continue
searching the internet for a super cool place for dogs to vacation when our parents are gone, that is when she found Camp Ilene.  So my mom had a "meeting" with Ilene (ok guys, what that really means is my mom worries too much, and she wanted to check everything out!)  When my mom goes out of town I go to Camp Ilene's and hang out with all my new friends.  I don't sleep much when I am there, because I am afraid I will miss out on some sort of fun running, chasing game. My mom doesn't worry so much because she can check me out on the camera (and trust me guys, she does.....gawd help her if
she ever has a human child!)  I am usually just a spotted blur on the webcam, does she want me to stand still and say cheese?  Ok now seriously, Camp Ilene is a super fun place for me to hang out and be a lucky dog, but Ilene also takes awesome care of me and my health issues.  I am a vegetarian, and I have to eat special (expensive)  food, and take some little pills everyday, it is really important cause I don't every want to have surgery on my belly again.  So all you worrying dog mothers and fathers
quit it, just load up your kids and take them to camp!  My mom wishes we lived closer to Ilene's so I could go to camp when my mom is gone at work.   Tiller
P.S. I sleep for a day and a half when I get home, and I even forget we have chew toys.  Um, I mean cats!

Dear Auntie Ilene,
I know that I should have helped my mom write this sooner, but I have Attention Dog-Ficient Hyperactivity Disorder, and I have trouble staying focused. My mom calls me Ellen Degenerate, Calamity Jane, and Houdini depending on the day, and what's been chewed while she's been at work. It was the couch last time....oops.  OHMYGOSH!! I am still a puppy, doesn't she know??  Anyway, I want to be with my mom always and always, and I can't ever stand when she leaves to go to work, even though she tries to work at home as much as possible. Well, I love my dog park buddies, but I don't get to have overnights with them, we can just run and play for a while in the evenings. The great thing about you Auntie Ilene, is you let me have overnights with my friends at your house, and we can all sleep together, and we can play sneak attack, and tug of war, and splash water, and run forever and ever, until we can barely run another step. I win all the races because I have the longest legs, I am a Great Dane you know. So my mom and I decided, it's Camp Ilene for me whenever mom needs a long weekend, cuz it's just like home only more friends are there, and if I can't be with my mom then I only want to be with you Auntie Ilene at your house.
Love, licks, and tail wags,

Ilene,
We just wanted to thank you again for having Carl.  He must have played
a lot... He slept for two days almost each time he was there.
You have a truly amazing place and we are all so glad to have found you,
especially Carl!!!  We will definitely be coming back, even if it is just to let Carl
play for the day.
Thank you again.

Hi, my name is Riley. I'm a Jack Russell Terrier who loves to play with other dogs (both big and small, remember, I'm a Jack).  I love to go with my family on vacations, except they can't always take me because they don't allow dogs in the hotel rooms or on the ski slopes. I used to stay home in the garage and get walked a few times a day by one of my family's friends. They were real nice, but I was very, very, lonely. (remember, I'm a Jack). Then one day my Mom was talking to her friend Melissa who told her about this totally cool place called Camp Ilene. We called Auntie Ilene and asked if she had room for me. Well, that was the bestest week of my life, (away from my family that is), and I was hooked.  Camp Ilene is the most fun a dog can have when their family goes away. I love to play with the other dogs, run around the huge property, (I think Auntie Ilene has about 1 million acres), splash and play in the coolest dog pool known to man, and just hang out  (there's even a Dog Web Cam, so you can see us having fun). The only problem I have is, I sometimes eat the other dogs food (Yum,Yum) and I get a big belly. Of course, it's very sad when I leave camp because I have to say goodbye to all my friends (actually I miss Auntie Ilene the most, she's my girlfriend but don't tell anyone). So if your looking for the best time known to Dogkind, check out Camp Ilene. It's the bestest, coolest, and funnest place for a dog to hang when our families can't watch us. One last thing, I usually sleep for two days straight when I get home because I'm exhausted from playing with all my friends, (remember I'm an active Jack).

See you at Camp

Turbo is my constant companion. He helps me with the hoses, he bites nasty little rodent heads, and keeps us laughing all the time. At home, he keeps the demons away and keeps my feet warm. The thought of putting him in a cold cage with strangers while I go off on my trips to Ireland is out of the question. He goes to Auntie Ilene's house, where he plays with his friends Mick and Magic and whoever else is there, and at the end of the day he crawls under the covers with Auntie Ilene and has feet to curl up with. Sometimes LOTS of other dog feet too.  I know that he will be well cared for, and I get emails from Ilene reassuring me that he is fine. So, no matter if I'm in Ireland or Nevada, Turbo has a safe and happy place to spend his time.  Another thing: Turbo was a bit of a bully until he went to Ilene's. The socialization he got there has made him a MUCH better dog. He used to lunge and try to fight with every dog he saw. Ilene's careful introduction to the other dogs (with Magic's help) has made him friendly, social and dependable around other dogs.  PLEASE contact me if I can be of assistance in putting your mind at ease in leaving your dog with Ilene.   Ruthanna Bridges, Bridges Training Stable 949.858.0970.

Dear Camp Ilene,

RUFF RUFF from Shadow...I wuv you guys at camp!  I'm a big black lab, who loves my visits (day or overnight) to Camp Ilene. I was "adopted" (aka rescued) by my "mom" from a local Humane Society (May 2005). I was barely 1, so I was pretty attached to her from the very beginning.  Well, my mom says "by the grace of God" she heard about Camp Ilene.  He coincidentally met a local dog sitter in a Lake Arrowhead Starbucks…the day she brought me home!  So now she can rest easy when her and my dad need to go away…and me, I can have lots of fun with all the other “kids” at Camp.  By the way…my Mom and Dad love to watch me on the “Pet Cam”….so do all the relatives!

I used to have to stay in a cage like this when my dad went out of town. Sure I would get out for walks, but its not the same as going to the dog park. Then he found Camp Ilene. Its like living at the dog park. I miss him when he is gone but Camp is like a resort for us dogs. Sometimes I would like him to take a trip just so I could have a little vacation. So make sure to tell your parents Camp Ilene is where it's at and I'll see you there!  Lucy

I love Camp Ilene! So does Fleur, my two year-old lab-shepherd mix, who asked me to write on her behalf. Here is Fleur’s story:

Last August when I moved to Corona, my mom and I felt like complete outsiders. We didn’t really know anything about our new home. I found my mother when she came to the Long Beach Animal Shelter looking for a companion. I was rather shy then, but I knew that we would make a good team. She took me home and my life has really changed. She tells me that I saved her life. My mom is a college professor and she keeps strange work hours. I felt very lonely when she went to work. I mean, I only have one sibling and his name is Buddy. Buddy is an old orange and white tomcat, who is pretty set in his ways. He doesn’t have time to play with me. I try to get him to play games, but he seems to prefer his own company. I told my mom that I was unhappy being home alone. She understood right away. She went online and found a really interesting place called Camp Ilene. Mom took me there to meet Ilene, who is the nicest person I know, after my mom. At first I was shy that is my nature you understand. I am a very calm and mostly quiet young lady. I soon grew to love Camp Ilene. I have lots of fun there with all the other ’kids.’ I’m always really happy on the days I go to doggy daycare, because I know that I’ll get to romp and play with all of my friends. Did I mention that I have a boyfriend? His name is Zeus and he is the dreamiest Akita ever! Camp Ilene is my favorite place to be when I can’t be home with my mom.  My name is Fleur Levin and I hope that your parents will be as good to you as my mom is to me. She knows that it is better for me to be with other ‘kids’, because I am a social animal after all. Camp Ilene is the best place for all of us social animals, when our moms and dads have to be away.

PS: I got to spend a week at Camp Ilene when my mom went to a conference last month. I didn’t really have time to miss her because there is always so much to do at Camp Ilene.

Dear Ilene (and everyone else!!),
Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Scrappy had so much fun, he slept the whole next day! (I think he actually grew a little, too!)
Scrappy is definitely looking forward to his next visit to camp to play with all his new friends!!  Thanks, again!!  Steve, Melanie and Katie Shaw

Thank you so much for letting Scrappy come over last Saturday on such short notice.  (I promise not to do that again!)  He needed the reassurance and companionship of "good dogs" after our trip a few weeks ago where he experienced the "unacceptable behavior" of some undisciplined pets and owners.  I think he got a little scared and started to feel unsure about other dogs.  I know that CampIlene was just the medicine he needed!  Thanks for taking such good care of him, and I know he looks forward to his next vacation to camp (with more advanced notice, of course!).

Hi, my name is Dutchess; I was born 10/13/03 . I am a Weimaraner mix, my mom is a Weimaraner and my dad was a fence jumper. Well enough about me, I want to tell you about the happiest place on earth (for dogs that is) Camp Ilene ! The first time I went to Camp Ilene was the best day of my life, now I get to go there three days a week. Every time I hear the magic words ‘ Camp Ilene ’ I start racing around and can’t wait to get there.  Camp Ilene is the perfect place to go to run, play and have fun with so many of my canine (and human) friends. When I get home from camp I am so tired, I eat my dinner and fall right to sleep. Sometimes my family will wake me when they laugh, hug and kiss me. They think it is so funny that I am fast asleep but my legs are pumping, and I have a big grin on my face. Everyone knows that I am dreaming that I am still at Camp Ilene having the time of my life!     Dutchess Miller

I can't express to you how content I am.  In the last 30 years, this is the first time I have no worries about the dogs, and actually been able to relax.  I watch the webcam just to see them and say mommy and daddy love you.  I don't watch for worry.  This is how my dog training customers must feel when they tell me, they now enjoy their dogs so much, they are in the house and part of the family.  Im sure there are days you don't want to pick up the poop or get up early to meet customers, and I feel the same way when I go teach a dog lesson.  Because a job is still a job, but the fulfillment I receive when I see how happy the dogs are when I teach the people how to co exist with their dogs and get them out of the backyard and in the house to watch tv, and lay with their people makes me smile.  You do that for people who want their dogs to stay in a loving, caring environment.  I'm not easily impressed, but HAT'S OFF TO YOU AUNTIE ILENE !  you are the best and I hope you stay in business for a very very long time.  The peace of mind you offer is well worth any amount of money any day of the week.  And oh yea, the dogs enjoy being there more than any kennel I have ever seen.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart   :)     Sondra

We LOVE Camp Ilene, and highly recommend it to you and your favorite dog.  We discovered Camp Ilene last year when we decided to take our daughters to see New York City over spring break and we weren’t sure what to do with our Golden Retriever puppy, Kobe.  Our dog is very much a part of our family, he goes camping with us, he lives in the house with us, he brings us so much joy, and OK, maybe he is a little spoiled!  It was our first time to leave him, and we couldn’t bear to leave him in a kennel, so I began looking for an alternative One day I found an advertisement for Camp Ilene and thought it sounded perfect.  I called and asked to come and see the facility, and I was so happy to find a huge, clean yard, filled with about 10 very happy, well-behaved dogs.  There were wading pools, plenty of clean water to drink, and lots of fun doggie toys outside.  There were also sturdy security gates circling the property.  Inside, it seemed everywhere I looked there were doggie beds and pillows here and there, and it was obvious that the dogs were welcomed inside.  I knew I had found Kobe’s “home away from home”.   Well, Kobe had a wonderful week at Ilene’s, he came home so happy and so tired!  Since then, Kobe has been back at Ilene’s for a couple of additional vacation trips: he’s also spent a few days of daycare at Camp Ilene when we have had busy weeks where we didn’t want to leave him alone during the day; and Kobe even spent our recent moving day with his friends at Camp Ilene, so he wouldn’t get stepped on by the big moving men!   If you are looking for a boarding alternative to kennels and cages, we would highly recommend that you send your special dog to Camp Ilene.  Tom, Christie, Allee &  Alyssa Alkema…….and Kobe!

Dear Ilene,

You have no idea what a burden it lifts from my mind to know that Muffy & Sammy will be happy with you, should we need you again. They were like new dogs after their stay with you, and seemed so much more calm and behaved. They slept a lot for about four days so they really must
have played hard.  I sang your praises to our vet, and she was interested in your philosophy in not caging the dogs. She knows how hyper Muffy can be, but associating with the other dogs must have taught Muffy how to be a good dog. Thank you again for taking such good care of the dogs, and for loving them as we do.  Sincerely,  Donna Junghardt

Dear Camp Ilene,

My name is Syrus and my mommy keeps nagging me to sit down and write this letter. She threatened to take away my snacks so here it is.

I love camp Ilene because I have met so many new friends that I get to play with every day! Each day I come there are new people for me to meet and get to know (and I get to eat their snacks).

I used to go to work everyday with daddy. It was great! We would share our lunch and have long talks and mommy would greet us at the end of our day with a big dinner. I got very attached to being with him and when daddy started a new job I hated being left alone. He took me one day to his new job and I was so afraid that he would leave me that I jumped out of his Big Rig window and broke my leg. Daddy couldn’t bring me to work anymore but I couldn’t stay at home by myself because I missed him so much. I used to cry everyday until Mommy found Camp Ilene. I went every day for a while when mommy and daddy were working long hours and I got to know everybody there. My social life improved, I was happy all the time, mommy was happy that I was eating better too.  Then we moved to a bigger house with a huge backyard and mommy said that I could just stay at home and play with my twin brothers Cling and Clang. I tried to tell her that cats are NOT the same but she would not listen. You know how stubborn humans can be, and mine are the worst!  One day the power went out on our block and mommy had to go to work. So she dropped my off at Ilene’s because she knows better than to leave me home all day without my Animal Planet channel. I had so much fun catching up with all my buddies and meeting the new guys. Unfortunately, the power returned and mommy kept me prisoner at home again for a while until I finally decided to protest for my right to go to school. One Saturday I jumped into the car and refused to get out. I was going to Ilene’s or bust! They say every dog has his day, and this one was mine. Mommy shut the car doors on me and left me in there for 30 minutes. When she came back out she opened the door and told me to get out. I refused. I wanted to go to school. She tried food, snacks, yelling, and pushing but I wasn’t moving. Finally she decided to drive me to school to see if that was what I wanted. As we turned the corner onto Ilene’s street I was so excited I shook the whole car and almost ran mommy over trying to get out of the door. Ilene came to the gate and said I could come to school that day. I emerged VICTORIUS!  Now mommy and I have an agreement that I can go to school if I promise not to bark at night, to eat my veggies, to pick up after myself, and be nice to Cling and Clang. I love Ilene’s so much that I told my cousins Max and Clyde to stay here while my aunt and uncle go on vacation. They love it too!    Syrus Rippa

My name is Beam.  Border Collie, 1 1/2 years old and very shy.  (But I am excellent at Frisbee!)  Anyway last year when my Mom went on vacation she left me with the Vet.  Mistake!  I was caged and only walked twice a day.  Came home and forgot my manners.  I was just peeing on the floor, cause that's when you do when your in a cage all day.  As a Border Collie I am an active dog so cage life was not for me.  ( I also sleep on the bed)   So, Mom said a prayer and found ....the greatest, most bestest place for Dogs.  You got it, Camp Ilene.   Yahooo for me!  Oh yea I forgot do to my shyness I did not care for other dogs or people.  Ilene said being around the other campers would be good for my social skills. How right she was!  Recently when I went to the Vet and I was a different dog. The clerk even mentioned it.  I was happy, wagging my tail, going up to other dogs and smelling them to see if I knew them from Camp Ilene's.  Mom says it is camp life that has changed me.  Ilene is just the neatest dog person.  She plays Frisbee with me and even lets me chase the water fromthe hose. (That's another one of my hobbies)  When I get picked up I say greet Mom and then follow Ilene back to the house.  I just am having the greatest time there, what is the rush to go home.  Oh by the way make sure you see me pictures in Ilene's collection.  You will how great of a Frisbee girl I am.

Dear Camp Ilene,
We want to thank you for providing such a wonderful place for Sydney to stay and play. Sydney is somewhat new to us as we rescued her from the Irvine Shelter. She is a spunky little dog with a lot of energy who really thrives on positive interaction with other dogs. Whenever we take Sydney for an overnight or a day visit, she has the BEST time! And the fringe benefit is---she gets a lot of great exercise so she is "dog tired" when she gets home (sorry I couldn't resist).  And there is a HUGE difference between taking your dog to any other boarding place and taking your dog to Camp Ilene. One time (before we knew about Camp Ilene) we had to leave town suddenly due to a death in the family. We had to place her at another place and she was just a WRECK when we got back. She had stomach problems (yuck!) and it was just like being in "lock down" for her again. But at Ilene's she has the freedom to roam around, play with other dogs, chew on a toy, and visit with Ilene. It really is a winning situation all around. And Ilene is flexible with pick up times and want charge you and arm and a leg for extra days. AND---if your dog has special dietary needs, you can bring his or her food.  When we learned that Camp Ilene was moving we panicked! Oh No! Just when we find a great place that Sydney fits in, the place is moving away! But we were excited to hear about Ilene being able to do pick ups and we sighed a breath of relief. (We might even be able to meet her halfway to make the ride quicker for our canine companions).  All in all, We just wish we had learned about Camp Ilene sooner! It's a great place and I highly recommend it for your dog.
Sincerely, Phil and Aerin,  Sydney's Puppy Dad and Mom

Hi Ilene and all my friends at camp.  Well, mom and dad and me are finally moved into our new place in San Jose.  Jeepers, things were really crazy busy for awhile!  I guess the best part of that was I got to come see you and all my pals at Camp Ilene.  I had so much fun being there I didn’t even notice mom going away here and there and all the boxes piling up. Boy, w
